Troop 966 was started in 1973 and is chartered by the Sterling Ruritan Club.
The troop has a current membership of 45 scouts with 21 registered and trained adult leaders.
Troop 966 is an outdoors troop. Each month the troop goes on a camp out generally to a different site and for different activities. The troop does hiking, backpacking, biking, white water rafting, canoeing, climbing, rappelling, and other high adventure activities. The troop also participates in Council and District events.
Troop 966 is also very active in community service projects and encourages Scouts to participate in service projects outside the Scouting environment.
